Sustainability
Reduce. Reuse. Rejoice!
As a fourth generation family farming company we are committed to continually improving the health of our land, vibrancy of our communities and quality of our products. We operate in a diverse mix of growing regions and understand how to maintain a balance with nature while providing a consistent supply of fresh, healthy vegetables to consumers around the globe.
Foxy owners, the Nunes family, work in all aspects of the business including sales, growing, harvesting, cooling and shipping, and all employees have access to the Nunes Family on a daily basis.
In 2005 we started the process of transitioning our land into organic production. This year, over 25 percent of our total crop output will be grown organically with more land transitioning every year!
sustainable farming
The health of our plants and safety of our produce starts with the health of our land and vitality of our soil. Our Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs, use of drip irrigation and water quality monitoring programs help us stay connected to the needs of the environment and work in balance with nature.
reducing our impact
reduced weight of packaging by 750,000 lbs. / year
Through design modifications we have reduced the weight of our packaging materials by approximately three-quarters of a million pounds per year. We have increased the use of reusable pallets and RPC’s and have reduced solid waste by 95%.
electrical and LP forklifts reduce emissions
Our facilities have been upgraded through the use of electrical and LP forklifts, reducing greenhouse emissions, and all of our corrugated packaging vendors are Sustainable Forestry (SFI) certified.
Supporting Our Employees and Communities
- Over a quarter of our employees have worked with us for over 15 years.
- We offer comprehensive medical and dental health plans as well as 401K retirement plans.
- We are active in local boards and non-profits and have contributed to the construction of youth sports facilities
- We work to enhance farm-worker access to medical technologies.
Committed to Food Safety
We are certified members, in good standing, of the California Leafy Greens Marketing Agreement (LGMA). The LGMA is a rigorous and science-based food safety program that includes standards for environmental assessments, water use, soil amendments, worker practices and field operations. In order to maintain our certification status we must always be in 100 percent compliance with all of the LGMA’s food safety practices.
