Red Chard

Red chard is a member of the beet family and boasts a stem of a similar color. It’s a Mediterranean favorite, and is an excellent source of vitamins A and C. Its dietary fiber will also leave you full long past lunchtime.

Chard is frequently called Swiss chard, but it’s actually most popularly used in Mediterranean cuisine.

Handling Tips

Red chard is best when its stalks are crisp and its leaves are free of spots or holes. Smaller leaves tend to have a sweeter taste, too! Refrigerate red chard unwashed up to three days. All parts of the chard are edible: try roughly chopping leaves and finely chopping stalks to promote even cooking.
