Strawberries
Strawberries are the world’s favorite berry. It’s easy to see why: they’re super sweet and simple to eat in a pinch. They’re also healthy with a high concentration of vitamin C and are naturally fat-free.
The name “strawberry” is misleading, because the tiny so-called fruit is actually not a berry at all, but a member of the rose family. The sweet red crown is an enlarged flower stem.
Handling Tips
When shopping, select strawberries with a rich, even red color and fresh, green leaves. Once home, refrigerate your unwashed berries for up to three days or wash and freeze them. Only wash berries once you’re ready to use them. After washing, remove their green caps.
